There are 5 levels in the automation stack (mainly). Level 0 being PLC/HMI, then comes upper levels like SCADA, MES, ERP, Cloud. In Industry 3.0 we made sure each level i is connected to level i+1. We made use of API, OPC UA, SQL for that purpose. In Industry 4.0 we are connecting those 5 stacks to a “namespace”. Its like moving from bus topology to star topology.
