How would you explain Internet of Things (IoT) so that anyone can understand it?

IoT has 2 main component:
1. A Client side : A device which has a sensor to collect specific data in predifined format and is placed in the datasource place like entrance door, inside car, on the hand. This device is connected to internet or to any wireless network to be able to send all data collected
2. A Server side : A Server which received data from client in real time and proceed them as programmed. The Server site could be Big data Infrastructure designed to proceed temperature data to raise some alerte
